Responsible sourcing is the commitment of companies and organisations to take ethical aspects in the sourcing of raw materials and goods all along the supply chain into consideration.
Many companies have encompassed responsible sourcing practices in their daily business already. A new generation of managers have taken their personal ethical values and translated them to business values gradually reducing harming effects of industrial production threatening human welfare, climate, food & water security and biodiversity and turn them into sustainable ecomomic growth for the people.
However, in view of highly complex and global supply chains the development of good responsible sourcing practices is a very demanding process requiring a thorough understanding of supply chain structures and products, as well as ambition and a long breath to gradually built new processes. Rather common, than exception, important changes in business practices throughout the organisation, founded on thorough company values and policies are necessary to develop and gradually implement.
